A rabbit tricked a herd of sharks so they tore off his fur. He was crying in pain on the beach of Inaba where Okuninushi the god passed by and asked him of his sorrow. Okuninushi taught the rabbit to wash himself with pure water and cover the wound with reedmace/cattail plant pollen. The rabbit did so and the wound was healed.
*"Kojiki" is the oldest chronicle of ancient Japanese myths, dating from the early 8th century.
