Patch/Jomon Goddess
[National Treasure] Excavated at Nishinomaeiseki, Funagata Town. It is one of the largest clay figurine found in Yamagata prefecture. Height 45 cm, Weight 55 kg. Stored at the Yamagata Prefectural Museum.
Jomon era clay figures gently carved with exaggerated breasts and buttocks to represent females. Many theories on its usage, religious, spiritual purpose or even toys for children.
Made over 10,000 years in Jomon period (14000-400 BC). In this series we celebrate the Jomon era and the starting point of Japanese art.
