Sweets for Boy's Festival. First appeared more than 300 years ago. Sacred oak trees. "Kashiwamochi" Oak trees are said to be the home of gods. They are also regarded as prosperity of descendents because old leaves never fall until new sprouts appear. The sweets have been eaten mainly in east Japan as oak didn't grow in the west.
