Patch/Broadleaf arrowhead / sagittaria.
Grown in marshes. Essential for the traditional New Year dishes wishing good luck. An aquatic plant came from China about 1300 years ago, characterized by crunchy texture, unique bitterness and sweetness. Cooked for Osechi the new year dishes with sprouts. They used to be grown as an interim crop in Kyoto in Heian period(794-1192).
