Sumo wrestler stands with their legs wide apart and their hands on their knees. The wrestler lifts a leg high, sometimes higher than their head and vigorously stamps the ground of the sumo ring. This motion is called "Shiko". Shiko is done to purify the ground. It is also a prayer to awaken the earth in spring and for the crops to flourish.
