Long admired in Japan since the Heian period as a “noble flower,” the camellia holds a special place in seasonal traditions. In the tea ceremony, a single camellia bud, before it blooms, can quietly take center stage during the winter hearth season. Today, there are said to be over 2,000 varieties. When in full bloom, camellias create a rich and abundant display.

This fabric panel captures that sense of fullness through a combination of techniques including chenille embroidery, chain stitching, flat embroidery, and patchwork, bringing depth and texture to the design.
