The Sagimai dance is said to originate from the Chinese Tanabata legend, and although the lyrics mention the magpie, which does not come to Kyoto, the white heron is made to look like a magpie by placing an umbrella on it. The heron dance has been passed down from Kyoto's summer festival to Tsuwano via Yamaguchi Prefecture.
